WiP Wednesday: Hordes

I’ve been quite busy with painting this week in preparation for a game pitting my Circle Orboros against my buddy’s Cygnar forces. The Gorax and Pureblood Warpwolf from last week are nearing completion and because it’s been a strong week of painting for me I’ve got 2 stages to show this week.

First up, the Gorax. Not much to say about this guy. The pose is pretty ordinary but he does kind of look like the Gorax from the Star Wars spin-off movie, Caravan of Courage so his colour scheme is echoing that design. He will probably see little use on the table once I paint up the 2nd sculpt that my mate got me for my birthday, recently.

On to the exciting model, the Pureblood Warpwolf. The wolves are what drew me to Circle Orboros and this guy is the coolest of the cool. I’ve always been anxious about painting white but with a short deadline on this model I’ve had to just throw myself into it and I’m quite pleased with how the white has turned out. Now that the supporting colours are starting to go down, I’m very happy with the direction on this guy. The lighting is kind of washing out the warm shadows on his skin but for reference, this is how he looked last week with just a Gryphonne Sepia wash over white primer…

WiP Wednesday: Hordes

I’ve got a couple more Hordes warbeasts on the go at the moment. The aim is to have this Pureblood Warpwolf and Gorax finished in the next week and a half to throw down a 35 point game against my mate’s Cygnar tin cans.
On to the pictures, I suppose. The Gorax is coming along quite quickly.

I’m really apprehensive about the Pureblood Warpwolf because, y’know, painting white. I want it to match the style I established on my Feral Warpwolf so the white will need to be built up in many, many layers. So far, it’s white primer, Gryphonne Sepia wash and Dheneb Stone layer. Unfortunately, he’s looking slightly purplish at this stage but I’m confident that I can get the result that I want.

WiP Wedfriday: Pureblood Warpwolf

In lieu of the WiP Wednesday that I missed this week because sand basing this model was taking forever, I present the Pureblood Warpwolf ready to be painted. It’s been forever since I primed with white but this guy’s white fur will need it.

On the table: Hordes

So, Kaya, Laris and the Druid Wilder are done (a proper post will come soon). I thought I’d put up an appertiser of what’s coming next on the Circle Orboros train… A Gorax is primed and ready for painting. The part I’m most excited about, however, is the Warpwolf Alpha model that I pinned together tonight. Wolves, baby! I might need to do some quick white paint tests before I lay some paint on him though.

WiP Wednesday: Hordes

This should be the last WiP Wednesday for these models as Monday is my “deadline” for them to be finished. At my painting day at my mate’s place a week and a half ago, it was suggested that we ensure we have 25 points painted and ready to play in 2 weeks time. That time is Monday so the deadline looms.

Laris has I more level of highlights on his armour plates plus a few minor details like teeth, eyes, claws and tokens to go. Kaya has only had the first level of metal done (GW Tin Bitz) on her armour plates. Also left to do is her staff, left armband, hair, and a few other tiny details. And obviously, basing for both.

Kaya&Laris

I’m quite happy with how the red of Kaya’s cloak has come up as it’s always been a difficult colour to get looking natural without the highlights seeming too harsh or orange.Kaya

Similarly, the red of Laris’ “scarf” pleases me.Laris
